Leupold FIredot Reticle Feedback
« on: January 25, 2022, 06:38:05 PM »
Does anyone own one of the firedot VX3 or VX5 scopes.  I am looking for input as I would like to get a 3x10  and put it on a new build I am doing for my go to everyday rifle.

I have two VX 3x9x40 Firedots. Great glass with Leupold’s great warranty. I have four other non-fire dot VX3s. The Firedots have a. much quicker reticle to target acquisition. For my aging eyes, they definitely help especially in low light.

I just purchased a vx3 3-10x40 with the fire dot. Haven’t had a chance get behind it and shoot yet. But the glass is nice and clear and I like that the fire dot is adjustable in brightness. Should be nice for low light shots.

I have a couple VX6's with the Firedot. I can honestly say I have never had the illumination turned on when I took a shot on an animal. I don't leave it turned on when walking around, and never think to turn it on when I am getting ready to take a shot. I like the idea, but I don't think it is something I would pay extra for. If they offered the VX-6 without the illumination for less $$, I would save the few bucks. Neither of my VX5's are illuminated.

Both dad and I have the fire dot on our vx5 it made a huge difference in the last minute elk shot for dad. He mentioned she would not have see nthe crosshairs without it. Nice feature but only required on the extremes of light conditions.
