Congrats, were you using a call?  I went out both days with the son in law with my caller, didn't see a damn thing!  I thought calling in yotes was easy!!  Used a dying jackrabbit call, tried female yote howls, and tried fawn in distress. Nothing.

Coyote are super call shy, especially this time of year. Also its been interesting to see more and more coyote hunters out there too. I use and e-caller in combination with hand calls, I'll do a lot of coyote vocalization, playing on their "rut", territory and their curiosity as well as some prey distress. I'll be on a stand anywhere from 30mins to an hour depending upon the responses I get. Its been a tough year, especially with all that crunchy snow.

So yote vocals might work better than dying rabbits, or fawn in distress?  Which yote vocals do you use, I have a good ecaller, it has lots of different sounds.

This time of year most definitely! The vocalization I use depends upon the type of response I get. If I get a curious young coyote howl then I'll sound like a submissive female, If I get a female call back then I'll sound like a male on the prowl, if you get an aggressive territorial call then I'll make a challenge bark back at them. Be careful not to sound too aggressive, most coyotes have had their ass handed to them at one time or another and may shy away. But if you get a super aggressive howl back at you, they'll come charging in to protect their territory. Thats what happen from that second coyote. If you take a look at my earlier post about teeth, that from him. Older dominate coyote not wanting to deal with a young pup. He was running with another coyote which I'm pretty sure was his female, she stayed way back. They will still come to a distress call but both those coyotes look well fed!

.204 Ruger. I pelt out most of my coyotes for the fur trade. I reload a 35grain berger bullet and push them just under 4000 fps. I rarely get a pass through.

I use a 204 as well - 32 gr V-Max... 4 this weekend, made 29 so far....work just keeps getting in the way...
Find Coyotes as challenging as any Big Game, love calling, but spot and stalk with these snow conditions make it really challenging. Great fun!!
Nice pics!!
