A day with the new cam.....now we wait

myself, my bro, the new pup and the new truck went for a great day in the woods..
we got our trail cam this week and we just got home from setting it up.
here is a few pics from the day.
ran into some snow on both sides of the location we were trying to get to, but found a great spot anyways.
we got a ton of bait set out and placed the cam in a great spot.
going back next saturday and we cant wait just hope we can find it...
Its definately not an easy one to find.
ps.
i know it looks high in the tree, but we tested it many times and had the laser dialed in.

yeah i know it looks high but we are on a hill and we used the laser and took a ton of test pics and it should be perfectly right on.

what did you put out for an attractant besides the block?  Just a precaution, you might want to get in the habit of wearing rubber gloves when handling your cameras.  Bears will smell the PBJ you made for lunch two weeks ago and eat your camera.  Seriously, human scent will take a back seat to any food odors you transfer to your camera and they'll chomp on it to see if it has a creamy center.

Bears love those blocks.  Shouldn't take them long to pack it off. Cabelas bargin cave has a few cams in there.  pretty good deals, mainlt moultrie cams.

we took precautions when handeling the camera, bait and when walking.
we got the block in cle elum, as well as the buck feed there too.
i sprayed a whole bottle of primos scent killer everywhere around and on the camera so we are covered.  we really tried to cover all of our basics when setting up this cam.  we tied the block down with a 2 foot concrete spike and the camera is pretty high on the tree. i guess this is our first camera setting so we will learn from it what ever happens.

we are headed back on saturday to get it.

You ought to have some critters coming in soon...something you might watch, those limbs near your camera will most likely set if off if it gets windy, my 1st couple spots when I 1st started had 100's of pictures and I was pretty disappointed when only 10% were critters.  Now I take a pair of pruners and cut all the wispy limbs that might trigger the motion sensor.  The other thing I've experienced when using the blocks with corn, they do bring in deer, elk and bears but they will also bring in the Blue Jays (Stellar Jays), a friend of mine set one up last year and had an experience similar to mine with the wind but he had 100's of pics of birds. 

Carefull, once you get started with one camera you'll be getting the bug to get more...It's a sport all in itself...

  yeah i hear that.....
we cut as many limbs and branches out of the way of the sensor.
we took that into account also when setting up it was fairly calm on saturday but we really stuck to the details.

Uhhhh yea the elk love my cam, I should have put scent killer on it. I went and got mine from the woods today, found it on the ground with the little clip chewed off . I did get a pic of a little bull though, probably going to be a spike .

I'd listen to bow4elk.  Scent killers are designed to work on bacteria for the most part.  I'd wage that a bear could still smell anything underneath that.
