Think last year they just took next people in line from the original draw. I received the email last year awarding me a left over elk permit

Don't you keep all your points if you get it on the second draw as well?

I don't think they will have a second draw until the expiration date 7/31/2022 for the people who drew buy theirs..  That is a while away.

Yeah, I’m aware of the timeframe. I was just wondering if it was the same as last year or going back to first come, first served.

For the leftover tags that people don’t pick up, they draw from the list of losers and go from there. The average is about 100 to 120 tags that don’t get picked up, so if you’re low on the losers list you’ll probably get a tag and they do not take your points. There is no list to see where you are on the losers, that’s an idea I’ve proposed for a while now.

I thought ELK multi season was pretty coveted tag.
Didn't realize that it had that many left overs.

It is very popular, but in some cases if you draw a special permit and know you won’t utilize the multi season tag, you save 185.00 by not picking it up. The number of left over elk multi tags are very low.  They used to sell out in 15-20 seconds, that’s why they now just ask those first losers.

Correct me if I'm wrong.  If drawn, you "must" purchase the MS elk tag before you apply for special permits on both sides of the cascades, yes?  I understand you don't have to purchase the MS tag until late July, and, at that time the special permit results will be out but.... unless you possess/have purchased the MS elk tag, you would only be able to apply for permits that match your original license (west side selected weapon, east side selected weapon).. right?

Correct, if you want to take advantage of what the multi elk permit does, you’d have to buy it before you apply for permits. But, if you only apply for a certain special permit with a specific weapon, you’d save money just waiting to see if you drew. And if you don’t draw, then after the results come out and you want to hunt big bulls on the west side, you’d buy your multi then.
