AR15 scope
« on: June 06, 2022, 09:47:52 PM »
On saturday ordered my first AR15 to hunt coyotes. Its Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport II 5.56mm NATO. Any of you run an AR like this? What scope you guys use? No need red or green dots. Something i can zoom in a bit. Thanks

Vortex strike eagle 1-8 power.  Lighted reticle.  Reticle is etched so you dont need the light, but its there if you want it.

A really good scope for the price, and nice on an AR.

ACOG all day

I have two S&W's Sport II's and a S&W XV Pro, 16". All are very good shooters.
ACOG is old school, proven in combat that still works just fine, would be more versatile with a RMR mounted either on top or at a 45 Degree for CQB.
If you are looking for a coyote killer. I would choose a 1-4 or 1-6 variable or a prism with a 3X magnifier.
I have a Steiner 1x4 variable on one rifle. Incredible glass and a very good reticles for both ranging and for CQB if needed.
A Holosun HS512C Holographic with a Holosun 3X magnifier on another. Love the reticles, very simular to the Eotech, without the problems.
A Sig Romeo 5 on a another. All serve different purposes.

I am not a fan of Vortex optics. I have seen more failures from Vortex scopes then all other scopes combined.

Having said that, The Vortex Razor 1-6 has most of the feature I would want in a Variable scope at a reasonable price. Though they are heavy.

The Trijicon Credo 1x8 FFP is a very good scope with an awesome recital that can also be used for CBQ in a pinch.

Those first focal plane scopes are dope. several makes but the reticles that are illuminated act like a red dot with halo on 1x but zoom in with 556 drop  on max are pretty good!
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

AlChase I'm with ya! I've not been happy with none of the vortex I've bought.(1 scope, 2 binos) wish I hadn't jumped in with both feet. I'm running nikon on 2 & a Bushnell on my 3rd. Never had any trouble with any of them. Those 2 companies havnt been around as long as they have because they sell a bad product.

With a 50-200 sight in with this scope I am money out to 300, probably 400 if I set steel for it.  62gr pmc x-tac.

I use Leopold Firedots on all my hunting rifles. I don't think I will ever use another scope that is not illuminated. They really make it easy and fast for these old eyes to pick it up and center on target.  :chuckle:

Do you guys use your rifles to kick down reinforced doors or chop fire wood?

I have 7-8 vortex scopes.

I've got one on my 45/70 guide gun and my 450 Bushmaster AR.

I shoot thousands of rounds a year.

Zero vortex failures for me.

I think some of you guys have anger issues.   :chuckle: :chuckle:
