Wind River Quality deer
« on: June 19, 2022, 08:02:56 AM »
My daughter put in for and drew Quality deer in Wind River unit. Not one of her usual choices but there you go. Kids!
Anyway we've never laid a boot print in the unit before. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Its a Nov 17-24 hunt.

Hunt/scout there during the general deer season and hold that tag for the rut.

That's the plan. Only about an hour drive for us so we can get some scouting for sure.

I’ve hunted it lots, both general and late. It’s Not what it used to be (in my experience) but still some great blackies in there. I can give you some info, but the part of the unit I’ve hunted, is NOT easy. Very thick and steep terrain. And it’s gonna rain, lots! Pm me and I’ll share more.

My wife drew that 4 years ago on her first time putting in. We live close by but had little experience in the unit. She shot a nice mature 3x3. Trick for us was dropping down off the road and hunting in a hole where we figured most hunters wouldn’t want to go. Shot it at 3 pm. Move slow and stop a lot like your a deer.
