Coyote hunting in SW Washington.
« on: May 15, 2009, 05:23:53 PM »
I'm new to the state (been here for 3 years) and I have been reading a lot about you guys hunting coyotes here in the state.  I'm from Southern California and I hunted for dove and quail (and an occasional rabbit).  I live in Vancouver and would like to get to have an oppurtunity to go coyote hunting.  I'm 17 and my dad would be happay to come along with me.   Anyways....does anyone know of a good area to go hunting in the area that will produce?  Anything helps.

If I were in Vancouver I'd try to head about an hour to the east and get into Klickitat County where it's more open. Otherwise, if you want to stay closer to home, there's plenty of state and timber company land all around you that is open. You'll probably do ok if you go into gated areas and walk in far enough to get to the "uneducated" coyotes.

Lastcat and I looked over some of Klickitat county a week ago.  The west end of the county has some public land (see WDFW web pages), but is pretty brushy still, except at higher elevations.

The eastern part is more open, but I haven't found any useful public land to hunt there, though.

I'll be others know better than I.

Gated Weyerhauser land, and find 3-5 year old clearcuts.  Sit down and call.  they come running.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Welcome to Washington.  I too am a Southern California transplant from the San Bernardino aera and hunted yotes in the desert.  If you need somebody to go looking anf killing with, give me a jingle.  I am now in the Bonneylake area by Auburn but don,t mind driveing to do some huntung.  Maybe we can get with adanahoundsman and do some calling around Chehalis.  Also, just got done hunting turkeys close to Goldendale and there is open country there.
