Montana alternates list?
« on: July 04, 2022, 11:36:22 AM »
So I finally did not draw my general deer combo in Montana, so I signed up for the alternate’s list. So couple questions for guys that have done it. Do you actually find out your number in line? Seems like you could kind of make plans according to that.  If you do find out when are they posted? I know there’s no guarantee at all for getting a tag but I’m just trying to figure out all my hunts and dates. Thought I remember people talking about what number they got.

Yeah, you find out your number and it updates as people get tags

That’s what I was hoping, do you know roughly when that happens? The deadline to get on it was June 30 so I was thinking it would be pretty quick.

If memory serves me correctly I think you should know your number in mid July.

I heard applications were down "double digit" percentage this year, hopefully you guys will get a tag!

Looks like between the 10th and the 15th in years past. I’m really hoping for a low number for at least two of us in our group so we can start making plans

That’s my thing also, I just want to know. If I get a ridiculous high number I’m going to plan another hunt.

Yes definitely a bit of an understatement. It would be nice if they would let you put in on the alternate list in your group so people didn’t get stuck going alone or not at all because the rest of their party can’t go.

If there’s 400 tags available do they make it available for the first 400 on there profile or how does it work ?

As tags are returned they go to number 1 on the list and then number two and so on. It could be 10 tags or it could total a thousand tags. No way of knowing the amount but I suspect it will be more than normal this year.

They completely ruined the alternates list when the sign up went from first come first served to a randomized drawing.

Well I see the alternates list numbers are up.  Thank God I am 2344 out of 2704.  Wouldnt want to be too close to the front might as well make it a challenge... wouldnt want to break my string of poor results in draws this year  :o

I'm in at #524, not sure if that will mean a deer combo or not...
