Never ceases to make me chuckle when Jay & friends talk about the environment and then do stuff like that.  WA has some of the worst incentives for EVs, PV, etc.  If you only look at "progressive" states, I wouldn't be surprised if WA was at the bottom.

Even CA gives some of the money back sometimes..

That's to offset the road usage that is not compensated by gas tax.
No free lunch....
I'm not an Inslee fan at all but should EV's pay for road use?

It’s still cheaper than paying the gas tax for a year.

Sure, I’ll be glad to pay for road use.  It’s a motorcycle, I put 2600 miles on it this year.  Is that worth $225?
No, more like $25.  I'm pretty sure that I'm getting screwed.

But hey, I'm just throwing this out there for all you perspective EV buyers.  Know what you are getting into.  Also worth noting that these fees were not in place when I bought it and I'm sure they could go up anytime.

Hopefully the state will use this money to fix the screwed up EV charging infrastructure.

In the meantime, I may trade it in on a smelly, smoke blowing, oil leaking, hearing damaging Harley.  Something from the 1970s that gets about 12 miles to gallon.

Rant over.

Harleys should have an 'obnoxious tax'.

People that can’t afford electric vehicles should not be the only ones paying for the roads.

Bus/light rail doesn't pay for itself, so cars have to pay.  Cars don't pay enough so EV's have to pay.  Who pays for EV infrastructure?  Maybe circle back and put an EV tax on bus rides?

It's a great system. :chuckle:

WA requires gas tax to pay for roads and such, so they nail you on car tabs to pay for all the other stuff like buses/transit/light rail/whatevertheywant.  Thus, the EV charges don't have to be used on roads since they aren't gas tax, they can be siphoned off 100% to whatever the legislature wants.  Where do they go?  Nobody knows. :chuckle:

So, if you don't own a car and ride public transportation it's pretty close to a free lunch.  Last I heard they weren't even checking to make sure you paid the highly subsidized fee on the light rail that was paid for by cars & trucks.

I would actually be surprised if a nickel out of ever dollar of EV tax went to roads.

What you really need is an Inslee Conversion, head to Harbor Freight where you buy a Predator generator and ratchet strap.  You won't be able to carry a passenger, but you will have a fully converted gas bike and cleverly skirt the EV tax.

Then, you have to charge it at an undisclosed location under the cover of darkness and secrecy.
