Opening morning woes
« on: September 10, 2022, 12:02:18 PM »
First thing. Parked and walked in. Got a good mile or so in and let out a bugle. I get an answer. My second season I'm excited. I run towards the elk. I close the distance to under 100 yards and it's a kid with what looked to be a firearm. He sees me and runs back to their truck setting off their car alarm. I know fire arms aren't allowed where I'm hunting so I back out and call the MIPS. 3 minutes later they speed out.  As I'm on the phone with the MP's I walk into what's left of a poached elk. (Just the legs and a plastic bag). People with guns, high temps, poached animals I went back to my tree stand.

I didn’t get the license. They had guns and I’ve heard stories. They where native and not behind a gate, but They where on base.

Sorry that is how your season started...best of luck moving forward...and far from a "Washington" issue...far from it.

I moved past this morning pretty quickly and ended up having a great day. Saw a gray fox at less then 2 yards. I got to spend an hour with law enforcement after hunting hours. Which was really cool. They let me finish my hunting day.

And then the Washington thing. I agree it's far from a WA issue. There are bad, nasty, dishonest people in every state.

Many people have never seen a fox in Washington.  THat is indeed a cool event.   Way to move on in a positive fashion.

If it is poaching then you are correct. All states have that problem. But if it is out of control native hunting like you mentioned, then Washington and Oregon take the cake!!!
