No Campfires, Means NO CAMPFIRES

In MT where I was we had torrential rains probably 6 out 13 days. Snow in the high country. Somehow it seems to be WA thing about campfires. Go to ID and there campfires everywhere and rarely bans, yet WA it gets earlier and earlier. Hell this year I saw a burn ban in May! we had 6" of rain where we live in June

Was thinking the same thoughts.  I don't recall so many burn bans as a kid.  Maybe some of the older folks could chime in?  Did we even have burn bans 30 years ago? They have trained us to accept some of this BS and then get worked up when we see someone not buying into the nonsense, and following the rules.  I guess out of all the fires on here mentioned, how many started a wildfire?  I am not advocating breaking the law, but these illegal fires sure have ruffled some feathers.  It is exposing that we can drive minutes across a border and it is acceptable, but in this state we get all wound up.  Reminds me of how quick they trained us washingtonians to wear masks and get mad when people werent following orders, but minutes away in Idaho no masks.  No matter the laws, stupid people will do stupid things.  Lighten up a little:)

I always see one or two campfires a year.
Durring burn ban.
Firework trash always left somewhere.
I'm just glad it rained durring 4th of July weekend.

We are dealing with a population at this time that is much different than the past. It also seems like more and more people using the woods for camping and vacation. I have no problem with that, what I have problems with is the lack of understanding that comes with the outdoor lifestyle. Leaving lit fires or smoldering wood to reignite is an issue. They have little regard for anything other than themselves. Someone else will deal with it mindset it hurting other who clean up around the pit before starting the fire. Keep the wood pile a distance away from the fire pit. Have a shovel or means to put the fire out with water or extinguisher near by.

How many of the campers are carrying what used to be requirement of an axe, shovel and bucket.

I can't remember the last time I saw the sign in the woods.

Used to be the forest staff would ask if you had them, but probably not anymore you would hurt their feelings.

I’ve been using two versions of these heaters for years. They work really well in a Wall Tent. The larger one is loud, but will take a tent from 0 to 80 degrees in a minute or two. The smaller version (shown) is quieter and maintains heat well.

Frickin tinderbox right now from the methow river all the way to summer blossom.  Guys complaining about the burn ban like its some kind of nanny state conspiracy are you not hearing the dry grass crunch under your boots?  Half the state is in a smokey haze.  Torrential rain in montana is great.  For Montana.

I have friends that won't go camping if they can't have a campfire. Like it's some necessary aspect of the experience. Big pet peeve of mine. Most of the time I'd prefer to not go through the trouble at all.

2 days ago, I was looking around in GMU105. The places that they usually run range cattle hadn't been. The grass in the forest roads is over hood tall. I didn't get too adventurous with a catastrophic convertor on my pickup.

If you're using an un-vented or "vent-free" propane appliance like a catalytic heater, "blue flame" heater, or certain instant water heaters, your appliance is adding 1.6 pounds of moisture into your space for every pound of propane burned.
