Algae dangers

Lost my dream pup last night to algae in my pond. She was 4 months old.  I was doing cleaning on the pond and believe I stirred up the algae.  She started acting funny and was dead in 20 minutes on my lap on the way to the Veterinarian. Hopefully nobody else has to go through this

One of my biggest fears. We have 3 ponds and two waterfalls and the dogs love them..but algea is always growing even with uv filters.

Wow, what a gut punch. Very sorry that you lost your pup like this.

Wife and I headed to one of the CDA chain of lakes about a month ago and I've never seen a more nasty algae bloom in my life on one of the area lakes there.  We had intended on fishing and camping, but after seeing that we were outta there in mere minutes. I told my wife that sh! t looked horribly toxic. The entire lake was literally split pea green, with spattering of beige and brown. This lake is normally pristine clear!
We were thankful to have left the dog at home on that rare occasion.

Sad news.  She looks like a dream pup, for sure.  So sorry for your loss.

We had an older lab who got really sick from drinking lake water with a red-colored algae bloom.  Until then, I didn't know it could be a problem.  RIP to your good pup.  She was a dandy.

I’m so sorry to hear this.  I have been keeping my little six month old chocolate lab out of the local lakes as they have algae blooms too.  He dove in off the bow of the boat the other day and I was more than a bit concerned.  He’s ok but this news just hurts.  So sorry man…

If you want to see blue/green algae. Walk around Soda lake this winter when the water drops. There will be rings of blue on the shoreline.

Algae blooms and the danger to pets and kids is being talked about more in the media but we need to be warning our friends and family of potential harms to pets and young ones.

Still dealing with a lot of anger, but will power through.  Right after we told ourselves it wasn’t meant to be.  Problem is I don’t believe that things that are hard is a sign it’s not in God’s will.  So, we put ourselves on the list to get another puppy from the same parents.  It’s a big commitment to buy a dog from the Midwest and have it personally flown out here, but I know the bloodlines I want.  So we start the process again.  Fingers crossed 🤞🏾   Does anyone know of a testing system for the toxic algae?

Bear, sorry for your loss of this beautiful pup. I didn't even know that algae could be fatal to animals and humans. I do now. Thank you for the advisory.

Really sorry to hear this. I almost lost my dog this past summer to algae poisoning. I wasn’t even aware of it until I asked rain shadow on here what he thought it could be.

Terrible to hear.  She was a good looking pup and at a great age for the season.  Hopefully others don't run into the same issue with all the current water issues right now.
