Late season rifle whitetails

  Im gonna reach out to the hunt wa community for some advice.
 So... son who's in school in Utah calls me up says I'm coming up the 16th and I want u to take me hunting for a few days. Ok I'm a muzzy hunter, and there's no season at that time so ive decided on the late rifle north of colville for wt.

I've been doing on x research and there seems to be alot of nf and private timber Co. Lands. Inland paper seems to be by permit. But there is also Hancock Boston globe and a bunch of others? This is in 105 and 108. Having never even set foot in these units I'm looking for any general advice we can get. And if anyone has had success during this time frame what's been your go to method. Kinda leaning on 105 coming in from the west side and doing some dry camping in a small wall tent.

Might want to make sure you're prepared for rough weather. That areas hunting can change quickly if we get early snow, so hard to give good advice in advance. Already calling for snow this coming weekend.

Definitely gonna keep my eye on the weather. If it looks like it's gonna be bad, we'll make adjustments. 
Realistic expectations are just to spend some time with my son. Between his military obligations and school we haven't hunted together in 3 yrs. As for successfully harvest an animal, I would think at that time if u can find the females you may find some bucks. Kinda just wondering if the other timber Co's beside inland allow access without a permit?

My opinion.. buy the inland permit. It’s not that much $. Like 50 or 60 bucks if I recall. This will open up a lot of land. There is a good reason they are charging that I won’t go into. They don’t want to stop access just the illegal harvest of their product and let me tell you that happens a lot more than you think. Good luck to you and your son!

Looking at the weather, this could be a good year for the late whitetail hunt. Plenty of ne corner units with lots of public ground. Depending on how many days you have, find a chunk of public and spend the first day just still hunting it. Keep an eye out for where you are seeing the most sign, game trails etc. If you find an area with good sign, be there the next morning in a spot you can just sit and watch. Vast majority of my deer killed up there are while sitting in some kind of stand.

Sound advice. Thank you. I may if it all works out go up the 13th with a bear tag and poke around. Then head into spokane on the 16th to pick him up. If I give myself a couple days to scout maybe I can find him some deer. I know asking for advice/ help this late is  taboo So I do appreciate it.

He sprung all of this on me just last week. Not complaining.  Actually really excited. Get to spend some quality time in the woods with my youngest, and see some new area.

By this time of the season, it’s pretty unlikely to see many bears out cruising around but you never know. If you have trail cameras, they can be helpful as well if you find a decently used game trail.

Go to wdfw and have a look at success rates while deciding where to spend your time hunting.  Go where you have the highest odds, 108 isnt it.

I would set up camp low so you don't have to spend time getting camp down the mountain if there is a heavy snow. There are lots of low elevation NF spots to be found.

Scouting is definitely helpful, but you can find plenty of wt during the season without scouting imo. I often go into season without any real scouting. I have a blind that has backpack straps and a little chair, start hiking until you find sign, scrapes and rubs. Then start looking for good openings to set up. The key is patience, sitting all day is pretty boring but it gives me by far the most opportunity. Still hunting has not been very productive for me for wt like it was for bt. I use a little buddy heater in my blind sometimes too. I was worried they would smell it but they don't seem to. Although I usually shoot little bucks so maybe the big ones have better noses 🤣

Doesn't bear season close Nov 15.
Just say in.
Just trying to help with advise and all,if your coming up on the 16th of November bear is not on the table.

I don't think anyone in this thread is scared of the weather. The less time monkeying around in deep snow at camp, the more time for hunting.
