Exciting day today

Started off the morning bright and early and drove about 30 minutes to the trailhead only to realize I forgot my pack and spotter back at camp :bash: Instead of a long walk I had to make a short one and head back to camp. Fast forward to the afternoon. Hiked a couple miles into my favorite glassing dune. I glassed for about 2 hours and only turned up does with no buck. I was about to leave when I did one more scan something caught my eye wayyyyy out. Obviously a buck rutting a doe and all I could see was frame. Threw the pack on and made a move to about 800 yards. Next thing I know there was an all out rutfest going on down below me. With all the bucks running in and out of the brush it was hard to keep track of who was who. Kept waiting and finally the big buck stepped out. Great forks, wide but missing a g3..  :bash: So I just settled in and watched the show. Roughly about 10 bucks everyone of them rut crazed except a cactus buck that was caught in the middle.

Ended with 13 bucks and 50+ deer total. Sadly I don’t have pics of the biggest one but got some grainy ones of the other really nice ones. I do have a video of the big one to look back on but hard to get a screenshot off of it.

1st pic is the cactus buck, 2nd a nice 2x3, 3rd and 4th a big 3x3

I’m only gone one day and you already leave your pack and spotter at camp :bdid:
At least you didn’t leave your rifle at camp  :chuckle:

Kirkl, I was waiting for someone to ask me that just didn’t think it’d be this early. I work with my dad for the family business. So while I’m gone he picks up my slack :chuckle: Luckily he’s on board to help me give this tag all it’s got!
Thats awesome. Good luck. Loving the story.

The day of 4’s

…Well except another big 3 that I seen :chuckle: another day where the evening proved to be better. Tried covering the numbers today and ended with about 8 4 points and 16 bucks total. The last two bucks of the evening made me a little twitchy but no shooters yet.

On another note I got a real appreciation for photographers on this site. Trying to take great pictures of the bucks I’m seeing has been very challenging. Luckily I’m getting better by the day.

Here’s the 2 better ones

Not sure I could have passed on that bottom buck. Glad you can and are waiting for the one you want. Thanks for the pics.

Ditto except for me it was the second pic.

Same.  Second pic of the four posted; bottom pic in the post I quoted. Hope you find one wider and taller.

This is getting good. That 2nd buck in the day of 4's would have been a tough one for me to pass. Can't wait to see what you don't pass.
Keep 'em coming and thanks for sharing your adventure.

:yeah: Same here.  Second buck posted would have ended my hunt, but I already know that about myself and if I ever draw a quality tag in this state, I'll have someone holding my ammo  :chuckle:

I'll  be holding my own ammo.

That will save me from fighting my buddy for my ammo so I can shoot that buck.

I couldn't hold out if he stood there.....

Knowing that it will only get better and knowing you can use a rifle in late December I would have passed as well.

With only $60 invested in tickets you are playing with house money.

I am excited to see what you decide on.

Yesterday was pretty uneventful. I did scrounge up about 10 bucks but a couple of them were repeats.

This morning was pretty good after a long walk. Spotted a buck with a giant frame and spent the morning playing hide and seek with him in an overgrown sage flat. I seen him about 4 times total and was able to confirm he was a 3x4 but one of the bigger bucks I’ve seen on this trip. The last time I saw him I bumped him and about 5 does. When all the does went to the right in plain view of my spotter he peeled off the the left and out of sight. Tried for another hour or so to relocate him at least for a better look and a picture. Spotted the big 3 from a couple days ago about 1/2 a mile from where I last saw him. He manage to scrounge up 10 does and was havin himself a day!  Got back to the truck at about 2 o’clock and moved spots before I ran into some truck problems. Spent the afternoon getting fixed up which left me little time for an evening hunt.

I know everyone is getting tired of the buck photos so I’ll leave ya a picture of a yote and a souvenir I picked up today.
