I recently had an issue with Cabelas online ordering of firearms, and it saying a bolt action rifle was “restricted” and couldn’t be delivered to a store in WA.

Why in the world would you use a card to buy a gun. They are monitoring everything you do with a card. Buy your ammo and gun purchases with cash.

Pretty sure you still have to fill out all the paperwork regardless of how you pay for it. Seems to me like they're going to be able to follow you regardless of how you pay for it.
Just my gut thought.

And I am pretty sure that card companies have no clue what you are purchasing.  Sure they will see the store but not what you are purchasing.

Just one more reason to not use credit cards. They are destroying our society, I strongly oppose having a credit card and have not owned one for decades, this has nothing to do with firearms, just that using a credit card is irresponsible.

Interesting topic hear,

Buying ammo with cash i believe is untraceable.  As long as you don't put in your phone number when the teller asks for it. I.e.cabelas or sportsmans.  Buying a gun with cash, they have all your info anyway.  As for having a CC is irresponsible I disagree.  Atleast for me, having a debit card back in the day was irresponsible.   Not enough in checking and overwithdrawling.  CC works so much better for me.  I pay for everything with my CC and pay it off every month.  Having my own business helps and the miles I have wracked up since not flying anywhere for the last 3 yrs has paid off in a big way  Kick backs are good from Alaska CC. Only down fall it is through bank of satin (bank of america) everyone has their own method of buying and saving.  Just depends on which method best fits you.

I should say, as a moderator, that this thread is probably not intended to be about how financially responsible or financially irresponsible it is to use a credit card. Save that for a different thread. Hopefully on a different forum.

So you call your CC company and find out if they are using specific MCC codes for purchases of firearms. If they are, terminate that card and don't do business with them.  Go get another card that doesn't do that.  If anyone knows of a company that is doing that, post it up so we can boycott the *censored*s. I know if my CC company does that I would terminate that account immediately.
On a similar note, The Woke CEO of Kroger grocery stores has decided he will not permit gun magazines to be sold in his stores. Kroger would include Fred Meyer and QFC. Not sure which others.  I now drive past Fred Meyer on my way to Safeway or Albertsons. Won't do business with FM any longer.

Other than Kroger is in the process of trying to buy Safeway / Albertsons. I believe it is being fought though antitrust.

This is one reason we don’t use banks, we use a local credit union. Wake up America get away from big business/banks, keep your money local.

It wasn't a new law. The credit card agencies agreed to adopt a new merchant code for credit card purchases at gun stores.   Back in September 2022.  Made the news at the time.  People that lobbied for it want it to be used by credit card agencies to flag suspicious gun purchases.  The anti-gun folks wanted it as a way to try to monitor and limit gun purchases.  But it's just a merchant code that tracks the amount of the expense.  Visa/Mastercard/etc. have no idea if it's a gun being purchased or what type of gun.   So it was a politically motivated change to add a merchant code to track expenses at stores that sell guns....but with no actual visibility to really do anything about it.....
