Canvas tents?
« on: May 25, 2009, 02:32:01 PM »
Anybody here use large canvas tents while hunting for several days at a time?

Looking at getting one for NE Washington deer hunting and SE Washington pheasant hunting.

Any ideas on where to get one for <$500 for a 10'x12' model? Willing to make my own frame to keep it down.

Have you looked at the Cabela's Alaknak? They have the 12x12 on sale right now for $579, and that includes the frame.

just bought one from yakima tent co last year, works awesome. We got the 14x16 slept 4 guys with a stove almost comfortably. Yakima tent seemed to have the best deal we could find.

I just bought a 9x12 canvas tent from Reliable Tent, we needed something a little smaller for family camping trips and early Archery elk hunting, this tent is pretty sweet, paid $450.00 for it at Fishermans.

If you keep your options down you can get one for that from just about anyone. If it were me looking right now I would call Yakima tent.

I love my canvas tent.  If given care they last forever- my parents bought mine in the 70s.  Can't beat canvas when the weather turns south, especially with a wood stove.

After my first diviorce I lived in my 9x12 for 3 yrs in NW Wisconsin and a couple long trapping trips to Minn before that.  At  -30 when the alarm goes off in the night to feed the stove , GET UP, it's mighty cold trying to get a fire going again.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

I have a 16x20x5 and a 10x12x5 both Reliable tent and awning tents.Am very happy with all the extras that come standard. I bought both of them through Vermonts Barre Army Navy Store online.Check them out.Type that in,then click on tents and it will show icon for Reliable Tents.Price them there then go to ReliableTent website and you should save quite a bit!and still get a great product. As for a "stovejack" go to a tent shop and buy one,30 bucks or so. Easy to sew by hand.Ask for a "military" style stovejack. They come in 4",5", or 6",with 5" being the most popular.Have fun and if you have any questions I'm more than willing to help.
