Anyone need a Black Tail Cape
« on: November 16, 2007, 05:22:04 PM »
Finally got a Washington Blacktail yesterday, a 2 X 2, caped it out just cause that is what I do.  Does anyone need a cape? Give me a shout.  It needs a final fleshing, but I will salt it down and put in the freezer in the morning.   I do a pretty dare good job on caping, so if you need one give me a call, it's yours FREE, unless your a Taxidermist then maybe a credit towrds something in the future. I'll keep it about a week before I chuck it out.   Mike

I'd take it if no one else does.

Just so you know , never salt a cape and then put it in the freezer. It will never completely freeze and will grow bacteria and wont be good. Salt is only to be used after fleshing and turning of the lips ears eyes and nose , then it needs to be dried and sent to the tannery or stored in a humidity controlled environment. I need capes but I know that Michelle Nelson needed some more than me. We are both taxidermists.

Thanks for the info, froze it solid before salting and shipping it that way.
