I Miss spring bear hunt.

I'm definitely more of a fall bear guy but it's a travesty what the commission pulled to sink the spring bear season.

Here's one from my first spring bear hunt ever.  Bearpaw outfitters had a hand in this hunt.  It was a good time.   

That thing's got a melon! Any idea of what the skull taped out at?

I have it sitting in a display case but have never measured it.  I will measure it and let you know.  My guess is 19" ish.....this based on my son's from last year that measured 20 4/8".  At the time, bearpaw thought it was one of the biggest sows he had seen killed in the area.  She was an old barren sow. 

Here is a picture of the finished rug.  Those are 4x8 sheets of wood with the top piece being 2x8 (half sheet).  She has a 6" wingspan.....

Quite cool. I killed a boar that taped out in the 19s and the head on yours looks enormous comparatively. Congrats on the sweet memory and hopefully folks are back out again in a year or two.

There are some impressive bears all around in this thread. Congrats all.

See my "How To" for Western Wa Spring Bear Thread at the top of the forum. Definitely miss it. Last time I went out was for my young nephew who got close but never filled his tag. It was great to watch him learn about bear peels and the excitement he had being so close to a bear but unable to get a decent shot. Love live spring bear hunting.

I loved the spring hunt, drew it twice, never tagged out, but that was me being picky (might have missed once also )... great time to get out after the long winter...
Out of state it is... taking a week off this year in May.

Elk calves miss it too.  And on an unrelated note, chocolate Easter eggs were twice the price for half as many.  Surely we can do better.  Be careful out there

I only managed to get drawn for one spring bear hunt.  The last one we had.  I managed to harvest my first ever bear on that hunt.  THANK YOU jrebel for the opportunity!

This was my first and only Spring Bear. He was the third one I saw that day. I hit him he ran to timber, I went in after him but couldn’t find him at first. There was a lot of down fall I moved under a large fir to go around a log pile and a chunk of bark hit me in the head.

The Bear was 30 ft up the tree. I backed up to get a better shot with my pump 30 o6. He started huffing and coming down the tree towards me. At about 10 ft from the ground and 30 ft away I drilled him in the shoulder.

He continued down, as I backed up I short shucked my rifle and jammed it. I was about to go to my hand gun when he landed on a down log and took off out of site. I cleared the rifle and my pants. About that time a friend and his brother showed up. Help me look.

I found him dead about 100 ft away. They drug him to the road for me.

I need to get one of those sleds. I find bears and game carts are very difficult to use solo.

Yeah we use it more than you think. Double as a stretcher, wood hauler around camp, decoy hauler, floats, truck organizer, dog bed, real handy.
Don’t buy a real big one.
