Ellensburg/Kittitas Coyotes
« on: May 30, 2023, 02:33:31 PM »
Have any advice on coyote hotspots around Kittitas/Ellensburg area? It is currently the end of May and I have heard this time of year isn’t necessarily a great time to hunt coyotes, however with not much else to do and a change in schedule I am thinking of taking a run at it. Any advice from locals or others who hunt/know the area well would be great. Any advice on early summer coyote hunting in general (time of day, calls, bait, ect.) would also be appreciated, thanks.

It's fawn/coyote pup season. For calls i'd focus on coyote vocals, coyote pup distress, fawn distress, rabbit/baby rabbit distress.

Time of day: I wouldn't worry about it too much and just go out whenever it fits with your schedule.

Bait: dog and cat food works. My preferred bait is rotisserie chicken from costco or walmart, crumbled up into small pieces and scattered over an area. It's fragrant and pretty cheap. In small pieces a predator can't just grab the whole thing and run away with it.

Also, location: coyotes like to hang out around cattle/chicken/ etc farms. If you can get access to hunt land near a farm that will increase your odds.

Also, don't forget to come back and let us know how you did. success or otherwise.
