ID for Babies?
« on: June 09, 2023, 02:51:43 PM »
Hey y’all! I was out scouting a potential archery deer spot on my way home from work Thursday and was crossing a field in some really tall thick grass. Nearly stepped right on these guys! As soon as I saw them I thought turkeys and snapped a pic and got away really fast. Maybe got 5-10 secs to assess the situation. Once I got home and looked at the picture I realized that they are some kind of hawk or other bird of prey. I do recall one gliding across the field fairly low, I just had no idea they ever made ground nests!

I think @nwwanderer is correct, Northern Harrier was formerly called the “marsh hawk.” Not the best photo but you get the idea.

Pretty cool to see
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies

In November U.S. manufacturing contracted for the the ninth consecutive month. Layoffs across the economy are higher than anytime since the pandemic in 2020 and I just read that the Midwest farmers will be receiving a 12B bailout due to 50 year trade relationships being destroyed. I have to admit that I was a sceptic and didn't believe in the effectiveness in tariffs but I'm a believer now.

I had no idea that any kind of raptor nested n the ground.

Sure seems like it would be hard for the babies to survive, but what do I know.

We have one of these guys working our field most days. Really cool to watch them as they hunt so low to the ground.
