Dad could always Outshoot me
« on: August 04, 2023, 05:16:34 PM »
Growing up hunting with Dad, there was always that friendly competition while out in the field. When it came to shooting I had my old single shot 20 gauge and Dad his straight shooting Remington 870 Pump.
As the years went by, I got wise to some of his tricks... like letting me always take the first shot, (predicting I would shoot to soon and most likely miss.) By the time he got around to taking his shot, the bird was in perfect position for the shot pattern to bring it down.  :IBCOOL:

After all was said and done, in the end...I think we both came up winners!
Yet I still wondered how his Old Pump could jack out those shells so smoothly.

(Having watched this video, I now understand.)  :)

Good memories and a smart old man!

When I was younger I was always the "gopher " who ran up and down the hills while my father waited for the shot from the comfort of the lowlands!  Here I am older than he was at the time but somehow no smarter as I still end up being the one racing all over creation...

And ya gotta love those old 870s.  My dad gave me one for christmas - i have thousands of rounds down that pipe.  I have more valuable guns in the safe but that is my goto - it will need to be pried from my cold dead hands before I give it up!

The wisdom of the ages comes to us all. The truly wise remember the lessons from our elders and pass it down to the next generation. Ohhh and the tried and true 870 rules
