Closed gates. Thank God!
« on: August 17, 2023, 06:01:51 PM »
Shouldn’t closed gates in most areas be a gift from God ?
An area we hunted for years behind a closed gate, was just posted. No Hunting No Trespassing! Timber company.  We saw it coming ! The last two years the locks were cut or trails were dug around the gates for motorcycles or quads to pass through.  We have gotten 4 bears out of there in the last 3 years.  This year closed !
Just bummed!
Hunt to live.Live to hunt.

Yeah it sucks. I was in a spot during bear season this year. And a dirtbike was flyimg through the valley and then came up the ridge going all over for hours. Screwed everything up. And the crappy part is the ones that are following the rules get closed out and they keep breaking the rules even when completely closed to all public.

Love gates
Hate parking at them (thieves)
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Or possibly the no hunting no trespassing part may be a deterrent..

Is this Rayonier or Manke land?

Locking it up is good.
Kicking hunters out is not good.

Same as it ever was
What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.

Been saying this for about 12 years since Weyerhauser started locking and charging for access: private landowners have the right to do with their land as they wish. However, they should lose their timber sale tax deferment and have to start paying annual property taxes. They originally got the deferment in the 70s with the unwritten understanding that the public would have recreational access to their vast resources. Although they often use the excuse of property damage and dumping as the reason for the change, many groups were volunteering on cleanups on their property. I was involved in several. This is about an income stream and they should pay taxes as any other land owner pays taxes.

Timber company's often restrict access this time every year...fire danger is to high..makes sense..

Also depending on where this access is Rayonier is selling off and or subdivided to sell portions of land in the greater Kitsap/ Mason co areas...

Also frustrating are the smaller, private landowners who used to give permisson to hunt who got tired of the trespassers who didn't ask. These are usually the same ones that leave gates open, leave messes and get belligerent when asked to leave. Several around here leased their land out for hunting not so much for the money, more because they were tired of dealing with the slobs.

Is the timber company name on the notices and have you contacted them about your bear hunting and the benefit to them?
