Any advice antlerless elk Forks 2322?
« on: August 29, 2023, 04:47:22 PM »
As it says. I made the mistake adding this as a special permit and didn’t read the fine print. FML. I drew the tag and a friend told me it’s the outer city limits with very little public access. I would like to give it a go so anything would help. It’s an archery hunt.
Normally I would have done a lot more research but I was building my house this year. No excuses just is what it is. Thanks Matt. 253-686-0772. Call, text, or message. Thanks

I can't help you, but consider this a good luck bump.

Hopefully someone who can help sees this.

I belive the forks antlerless permit is for elk area 6612. That area has some rainier resources land in it, and some DNR land. I don’t know if you can hunt the rainier resources land, but it’s worth a look.

The other idea I have is to check in with the regional biologist and see if they have gotten any complaints about elk eating crops or hay. Those farmers may be more willing to let you hunt their land. That being said i don’t know if the few farms in the area are livestock farms or crop farms.

If you don’t have it already get OnX maps or something similiar to show you the different property owners.

Here’s a link to the map of the elk area: https://wdfw.wa.gov/sites/default/files/webmaps/gohunt/hunt_pdf/Elk_6612.pdf

Hope this helps

I appreciate the advice. I will definitely try to call the biologist. Thank you.

The multiple herds that inhabit town pretty much stay on the private property when they are in the very limited hunt area. When they leave they go outside the hunt area so it makes it pretty tough without permission to hunt somebody’s land. Good luck with getting something figured out. The state & landowners did a poor job with this population control hunt.

Seems to me like it has a reasonable success rate and while limited, offers access into places that hold elk. It should be easy enough to find a cow. Light snow would improve tracking but since it mostly rains that time of year perhaps check out the southern slopes on a sunny afternoon. The private town stuff is pretty tight lipped from what I hear. I'd hate to have wasted my cow points on a cow tag

Just make sure you know exactly where the boundaries are as I witnessed a couple permit holders a few years ago have 2 down outside of the hunt area & were turned in by somebody before I ran into them while walking my dog. My son had the permit a few years ago & filled his tag only due to having a landowner connection. It can be done but definitely not a slam dunk without lots of effort & luck and not subjecting yourself to some drama with the local landowners.

:chuckle:  well imo it should of been a population and property damage control hunt where fish&game, land owners & the hunters work together to harvest the animals they want taken from the specific herd. Unfortunately that didn’t happen.
