Opening Day Ducks Video - SE Louisiana
« on: November 16, 2023, 01:18:52 PM »
Opening day ducks.  Unfortunately, I did not get a lot of video of ducks getting shot where you had a good look at the duck.  On opening day with all the shooting going on we do a lot of pass shooting.  The ducks don’t work very well so we shoot them where we can.  Any time you limit out and have fun doing it with a good dog retrieving the ducks that’s a winner, winner duck dinner.

Every year he does this. Not sure why he hasn’t been banned.

Yeah. I’m not a big fan of the drinking and shooting. As long as it’s legal I guess can’t do much. Gotta say tho it’s not a very good look.

The main reason I post on hunting forums is to promote the sport of duck hunting that has been good to me for over 40 years.  I try to show when done right how enjoyable duck hunting can be with family and friends while spending time in the outdoors.  Lucky for us we hunt and fish in one of the finest river deltas on the planet.

Also, on a local forum I enjoy reading post from other states to see how things are going for others in the game from different areas.

I suppose I have not been kicked off of the forum because 364 people seem to have an interest in what I post and 57 of those people watched the video.

No harm, no fowl, just some guys having fun shooting ducks.

Dude honestly. Promoting shooting while drinking is a pretty awful look for our sport. Do whatever you want but at least edit out the empty beer bottles. You claim to love this sport then please don’t tarnish it.

Kind of how it's done down in Louisiana.  I invited a group to hunt with my from Louisiana and they each brought coolers to sit on.  Little did I know each had a 12 pack.  That was a first for me.  They like drinks and smokes while duck hunting.  A different culture.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

That’s fine. Personally I would never mix alcohol and guns. If someone around me is drinking and handling firearms I’m leaving. It’s right there in any safety class. Do what you want, but if you are going to try to show how suck hunting is a family and friends tradition maybe at least leave the booze out of it. At least what you show. Maybe it’s just me but I see that and cringe really hard.

You’re posting on a Washington hunting forum. Washington arguably has the best duck hunting in the country. Your Louisiana hunts are not impressive.

lol we have really long seasons, a 7 duck limit, and absolutely fantastic hunting all season long. These other states wish they had the duck hunting we had. Coming from guys who travel the country duck hunting for a living. We got it good around here.

To dilleytech:

Here are some statistics you may find interesting.

https://247wallst.com/special-report/2023/10/19/best-states-for-hunting-ducks-and-geese/

Using data from the FWS, 24/7 Wall St. identified the best states for waterfowl hunters. States were ranked on the estimated waterfowl harvested per hunter in 2022. Waterfowl harvest totals were calculated by combining the number of geese and duck harvested in 2022.

8. Washington
> Waterfowl harvest, 2022: 14.1 per hunter (approx. 370,400 total)
> Duck harvest, 2022: Approx. 312,100 (13.1 per hunter – 7th most of 49 states)

5. Louisiana
> Waterfowl harvest, 2022: 16.0 per hunter (approx. 578,600 total)
> Duck harvest, 2022: Approx. 544,200 (15.2 per hunter – 3rd most of 49 states)

This doesn't take into account the number of days hunted for a total effort in versus harvest out. You could have 100 guys only hunt 1 day per season in a great state and have 100 guys hunt every day of the season in a poor quality duck state and the latter would have higher harvest numbers. I'm not saying theyre wrong, just saying the numbers are an incomplete picture about duck hunting in the state.

Happy to see the Huskies win over the Longhorns.  Get it done over the Wolverines for the ship!  Good luck.
