This is the same lawsuit Idaho has been in for some time now- this is just the media's way of adding their own twist to presenting the information to the public. Last June IF&G's lawyer stated she hoped to have the case heard and completed by January or February.

They want the jaw to age the cats. It probably is a good thing as it accumulates data to support the management of bobcats. Without that data DFW opens themselves up to being accused of not having data to support seasons and possibly closing the season. This is what happened in California.
I am trying to get them to go for just taking a tooth instead of the entire jaw.

I would think the best data in the world would be the CITES tag data that’s been collected nationwide for, I don’t know, 45 years? Although the only age class info in that data would be adult, or yoy. That should be plenty.
That being said. Bobcat jaw collection is a good source of proactive data collection. I say a good scientific approach to justify harvest. Although, I think it’s too little too late.
Idaho has collected jaws for 5 years +-. I beleive their collection is over now. It was voluntary, and IDFW reimbursed the producer $5 for the jaw.
I’m surprised that WDFW is even spending time and money supporting furbearer harvest with a real study.
Too bad they didn’t study the possible effects on Marten, Lynx, Cascade fox, and Bobcat before they dumped their Fisher out on everybody.

Ya know what, I missed one…. the Western Grey squirrel. Fisher prolly mow through them pretty quick.
Some of these agency bios want a feather in their cap, and rake in a bunch of grant money so bad by dumping out these highly charismatic predators. Predators that if they were even present in an area historically, Were never ment to be a dense population. They should be setting the table, before they invite more guests to dinner.

Yes the Fisher have expanded all over , 3 years ago i never had to deal with them as I never had any issues or pics now everywhere I trap high and low I got them around constantly

What Idaho is doing on managing the wolves and other predators by trapping and hunting is keeping a balance that otherwise would go south as it’s going that way here in Washington
