Alaska river guided salmon?

Just today started wondering about a guided river trip up in AK,  somewhere, for salmon. A few days, 2-3 people, at least somewhat scenic (easy to do in AK), bring a lot of fish home. Good time, not too hard to get to, but not looking to drop a ton of $$$$.

Any recommendations?

If you are a fisherman that knows how to fish I would look at Yakutat AK and the Situk river. Alaska Air flies directly there. You can fish the bay for Halibut 1 day surrounded by the Hubbard glacier. Fish the river 1 day with a guide to see how they do it then fish the rest of the time self guided. We use to rent an old van to access different points of the river and just walk up the river fishing from there. Steelhead is probably the most popular but we did it for Kings and Sockeye also. No joke I landed 16 Sockeye in a row and we caught and released well over 40 fish a day each on one 4 day trip years ago. Pack a large pistol. Bears are always close but the bears we saw were never to interested in us.

Seem's like I heard it's a 1 a year limit on Kings now. Not sure if that includes Yakutat or not. Could be wrong too.

Yakatat is fun. We got big halibut in 50 feet of water.

Can you rent a salt water boat in Yakutat?

We did guided. It was a package through Glacier Bear lodge. 1 day salt. 3 in the river. Room and board. This was 15 years ago.

I’d look into the sockeye on the kenai. We did two days a couple years back and came home with a lot of fish. The average we were catching was 12# and quite a few in the 15# range. With a 4 fish limit. Can’t remember the guides name. He was good. We had ours limits by 11 both days. There were quite a few people I talked to that didn’t do near as well. If you’re interested I can get the info. I believe he charged 250 a day.

Rent a boat and grab a airbnb and hit up the situk in April.  Fall salmon is very good as well. Been there many times. Guided and scenic are tough on the peninsula as tons of people do it. Everyone's definition of scenic are different though, but flying out to a remote lodge is about the best. We fly out to these lodges often and just rent a boat and do our own thing, or fly in with rafting gear and get dropped off/picked up by float plane.

I have friends that work at Glacier bear and yakutat lodge on the situk, and they all run a very good opp with lodging also.
