Newer to bear hunting, looking for tips.
« on: August 27, 2024, 02:03:47 AM »
Haven't seen any sign this year but need to get out there more, second year looking for bear, where are yall seeing sign? I hunt west side toward Aberdeen, saw a good amount in one spot last year but must have missed it by a week or two. There's not a ton of elevation there so should I focus higher up, lower down, near the rivers, camp it out watching some berries? Any help is appreciated.

In the Aberdeen area, I don't think I would care about elevation, I would focus on trying to find a food source. Could be rotten logs or stumps such as in the right age clear cuts, rotten logs have lots of insects, bears love cascara tree berries when they are ripe check cascara areas. Other berries too are a possibility.  I tend to hut bears above tree line when the mountain huckleberries are ripe, not that that is the best way to get a bear in Western WA it is just what I enjoy. Also there are limited spots like that on the West side that are not national parks. It all comes back to finding a food source, then seeing bear sign around that food source, I wouldn't set on a food source unless you have seen sign around it.

It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity...

Sarcasm makes smart people laugh and stupid people mad.
