NW Chapter Youth Hunt 2024

The WWA NW Chapter is once again sponsoring youth waterfowl hunts at locations in north Puget Sound on Saturday September 21st.  We have several hunt blinds available. This is an excellent opportunity to mentor youth under 16 years old and a great way to introduce youth to the hunting experience and heritage.

A Washington State small game license and a WA State Migratory Bird Permit are required.  A federal migratory bird stamp is NOT required.

All are welcome!

Rick Skiba our chapter Youth Hunt Coordinator has secured hunts at these locations:

Edison Hunt Club (Samish Bay).  2 Blinds adjacent to a fresh water pond.  2 Blinds on Samish Bay.  Morning hunt from 6:10am to 12:00pm. Afternoon hunt from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

Swinomish Gun Club (Padilla Bay).  2 Blinds on fresh water pond. 4 Blinds on Padilla Bay. Morning hunt from 6:10am to 12:00pm. Afternoon hunt from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

Reservations are required.  First come-first served. Please contact Rick Skiba reskiba@msn.com (253) 293-4637 or Rick Billieu, rgbillieu@frontier.com (425) 299-6704.
Our Mission

Preserve, protect, and promote waterfowl, waterfowl habitat, and waterfowl hunting; particularly in the state of Washington

To that end, we teach folks about waterfowl, waterfowl conservation, sportsmanship, shooting, hunter safety, and waterfowling. We also study, advise, recommend, and secure enactment of legislation in the interest of waterfowl, their habitat, and waterfowl hunting.

I was wondering if these blinds got filled?  Seems odd to be advertising blinds that should have been reserved long ago with unfortunate tears from the ones left out? Hopefully not a red flag of things to come with blank blinds on youth seasons.

Not every kid has someone to take them on the early youth, but there are volunteer opportunities. I was slated to go to one of these with my son on Saturday afternoon but he was fortunate enough to limit out in the morning at a different spot so we did not do the afternoon hunt. Thank you to WWA for the opportunity (that we took for the past 4 years). looking forward to the late Vet/Youth hunt. You guys are the best

Did you take any kids out for the opener? Did you even ask or volunteer? Instead of questioning everyone else and complaining about how bad things are looking have you actually gotten involved at all?

I had to work for a living last weekend. If that is complaining then I’m sorry.

Im a Proud NW chapter member. I joined and support them because of the awesome time my kids have had at this. Rick Skiba deserves a lot of the credit for putting this together. THANK YOU RICK!

I took a couple of kids out on a morning hunt. Plenty of shooting and birds sadly only 2 in the bag.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Finally, someone to say join my wing instead of saying stop complaining. History could be a lot different if this guy told the other guy to stop complaining but instead understood what was being said by listening.

All I have to say is you come at things from a different angle.  Not a red flag, these take time to setup.  Most of these are at clubs, so you have to get the member buy in and okay process in many cases.  The first round of offers go out to those involved in the NW Chapter and if you still have open spots, offer it up to others with youth available to shoot.  You also have to work these hunts around the tides in the bay as well for several spots.  Always a work in progress and volunteers that set these up also have to work around their jobs and families.  Congrats to the NW Chapter guys for all the hard work setting these up and the volunteer hours they donate.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Yes, really cool that you guys offer these mentored hunts. My son (8-yr-old) just wasn't quite ready with his wingshooting ability to take advantage of this yet. But if this is available in the future, we will jump on it. Thanks to WWA for making the opportunity available.

Sounds like a great opportunity made available to these kids.

Thanks to all of those who actually volunteered and made this happen.
