Shockwave sabots

Does anyone know who makes that red EZ load sabot that comes with the Hornady SST-ML? 

I tried a few of these and they load ridiculously easy.  I can start them flush to the muzzle with my fingers.  With such a loose fit I didn’t expect much accuracy but they shot a clover leaf group at 50 yards and a little over an inch at 100.   I’m impressed.

I just tried my new TC's Shockwave sabots 300 grain bonded today. I was very pleased with how they shot. They should work well for my Wenaha bull hunt. I am shooting the Knight Bighorn 26'' barrel stainless. I switched the original sites to a peep.

The first picture is 100 yards. The lower shot is with 2-50 grain pellets of 777. The chronograph said 1602 fps. The higher hit on the target was with 3-50 grain pellets of 777. The speed was 1916 fps.



This second target was at 200 yards. The range did not have a 150 yard target. I used 3-50 grain pellets of 777 with both shots. The speed was 1921 fps and 1929 fps. I thought that was pretty good for 200 yards.

I have killed a few animals with the TC Shockwave Sabots and only use them for target practice now. My experience with this product is not favorable, as the bullets have excessivley fragmented on every kill. Just my two cents.

I use Precision's QT40 and they are the most accurate and best killing bullet I've used out of my T/C Black Diamond. The Cabelas version of the Precision X-Tended Range is the same thing and I believe that they are made by the same company.

I shoot the shockwave  out of my bighorn, I am shooting the 250 with 100 grain powder.

50 yards- 4 inches high
100 yards - 1.5 high
200 yards- 3 inches low

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on some new boolits. I looked at the Hornady SST and was a little cornfused with the stem out the back of the sabot. Are you just taken it off or do they make them with out it. This is all they had at Cabelas.

I might check their web page and see what they have. Normally  Iwouldn't buy from tehm but  Ihave a gift card so I'm going to use it for some new sabots to try.

The guys useing the pellets. What kind of a cap are you useing. I have always used 777 powder but am curius about the pills. I was told they don't work as well without the 209 primers. It that true? I would rather use the pills as I'm sure they would be faster.

Also, I thought we had to use bullets over 270 grains. Wouldn't that make the 250 grainers you guys shot illegal for elk? Or did they change that as well.

The caps I am using with my 777 pellets are the Dynamit Nobel Made in Germany. They have been working great in my Bighorn.

I like loose 777. It's plenty fast if you pre-measure your charges and carry them with you while hunting. I've never tried the pellets.

Yes, they make the SST without the stem out the back of the sabot, which is used with the pellets, not loose.

As long as it is at least a .45 cal or larger there is no restriction on weight of projectile.  40cal for deer
