Best/Preferred Scouting App

Apologize if this is the wrong part of the forum to post this. But I'm curious what everyone is using as far as hunting scouting apps. I use OnX and it does mostly what I want, but have also thought about switching to BaseMap as some of my hunting buddies use it. The idea of my wife being able to see where I am and also people I'm hunting (signal permitting of course) with is one thing I wish OnX had. I've also heard good things about GoHunt and some others. Any information on what/why you like a certain app would be awesome. Thanks!

I prefer OnX. I have tried base maps, go hunt and others but feel OnX is best all around and they continue to add more to it.

If you want your wife to be able to track your location you need to get a zoleo or a garmin in reach. Though I’d guess starlink is going to make it possible to get service any where in the near future and eliminate the need for a zoleo or in reach.

  I use OnX and had a garmin up until this fall when I grabbed a Zoleo. Nice combo

For in the field navigation i still use OnX but for e-scouting GoHunts mapping is absolutely fantastic. Gotta be on a laptop or desktop to truly take advantage of it.

I use basemaps most of the time. I also have onx but was only purchased for draw odds info . I had a ton of map failure issues with onx years ago and switched and never had a offline issue with basemaps. Onx desktop version is garbage. I cannot believe how slow and glitchy it is.

 For mapping OnX is the ticket... for hunting/ state info I have GoHunt and am 2 days into TagHub.... either I don't have that one figured out or it's not that great so far.

I like the ease of use with OnX. I also have the inreach and used to have the tracking enabled for my wife but then I had a few times where the tracking wasn’t working properly that got her all worried so I don’t let her track me anymore. Just check in at night from the camp.

I’m sure soon enough texting through satellite will make the inreach obsolete so I wouldn’t invest in one if I didn’t already have mine. I still carry it for emergencies but that is it.

In the field OnX for sure.  They have closed the gap for e-scouting as well to the point where I only buy GoHunt if I need the research.  OnX has some now that's OK if you just need a general idea.

I have ran into at least two times where public land showed up private on GoHunt and a couple other cases where the boundaries were not right, off by a couple hundred yards.  I don't know if they fixed that or not, but it was the reason I switched back to OnX a couple years ago.

I use Google earth in conjunction with onx. Once I locate a general area of interest I scour it with google earth. When I find area's of interest I'll drop pins on my onx app to help me navigate when I'm doing my actual boots on the ground scouting.

I have seen areas where the OnX property lines are off as well so always double check before getting right next to the line.
