NEED ADVICE: LATE after JUNE 15th IDAHO BEAR
« on: May 29, 2025, 08:07:09 PM »
Hey gang,

Due to work I don't think I can get out for my spring bear till after June 15th.

Bears will be rutting but I've never hunted this late in this season.

Any advice? Plus I think there's only a few units open that late. I typically just go for it but im doubting myself as I have not gone this time of year.

thanks for any responses

you are right that a good number of units close june 15. Many of the better units will be open. june 15-30 is good. Boars should still be moving around more looking for sows. A lot of the bait hunters will be done also and I think that gets the bears travelling looking for new food sources. I was assuming you were doing spot and stalk?

Lotta bear movement in June.. my baits get hit the most those last 2 weeks in the season where I hunt (june 15th closure) I gripe to IDFG all the time about there random weird units closing dates. Unit 10 closes June 30 and yet 7 that borders it is july 31.. well a ton of access into that country is after June 30th due to snow. I have tried for almost a decade to get in the last weekend in June and its yet to happen. My cams are running in there from previous year and I get alot of bear pics in June.

Thanks for all the info. I ended up getting hosed on work. Not the worse thing in the world. Having a job a and deal.

Anyhow, I guess I can use the tag in fall. Aug30 is pretty late. Will berries be dried up? East side of Wa seems like berries are done by then. Makes it a bit tough to find them without easy food source.

Any suggestions or units to pm? I typically head up into up panhandle.

Cheers

Lotta huckleberries most years above 5K in late August into September. Last year on labor day weekend I saw 7 bears in 1.5 days eating hucks at 5,000 to 6,000'

 :yeah:
I hunt the north east corner every year for bear in September. Actually I hunt hucks
Bears will be where the last berries are. The weather can be a bit cooler and it limits that amount of area you have to cover. In a nut shell, just find the last berry
