Abundant bunnies? Seems so
« on: June 26, 2009, 08:25:16 AM »
Has anyone else noticed that rabbits seem to be in the high end of the cycle this year? Out east of North Bend, where I live, I've been seeing a fair number of cottontails and they look plump.
All the more reason to keep a .22 handy as the fall approaches, methinks.

Anybody been out to the Columbia Basin and seen any rabbits out there?
What about snowshoe hares hopping around the mountains?

While I haven't been to the areas you mentioned I can tell you that the rabbit population in Thurston county is way up! My Beagle Daisy and I anxiously await Sep 1st!

i've been noticing quite a few big ones out by my parents place.  too bad it's in lacey city limits :bash:

.22 ammo is scarce, but i've got enough boxes of subsonics to have some fun when the season starts!
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

should bode well for predator hunting

On the way through North Bend early this morning, about 5:30 a.m., I darned near ran over two of the little buggers coming around a curve in the road. With that many bunnies in town, it stands to reason the woods are full of 'em.

Break out the .22 rifles and pistols!

Ive notice a fairly large crop of cotton tails on my place. One particularly large buck almost seems like he wants to get up on the porch. I just can't seem to find the time to go rabbit hunting this season, and I don't kill things in my yard. They do eat a bunch of the dandilions, so I guess I'm thankfull for that.

I rather think they taste like spotted owl, which is close to the flavor of California Condor   :P :chuckle:

My dads springer caught one yesterday. She had its head chewed completely off and was dancing around in the yard with her trophy in her mouth! :chuckle: Yikes, don't let the friendly folks at PETA find out.... What would they do in that situation? Animal on animal cruelty? :dunno:

Season isn't open year round? In AZ & NM they can be killed anytime, no bag limit. Same for jackrabbits--they don't even bother to put 'em in the regs.

Well, this ain't NM or AZ.  It's WA.

I too have noticed a HUGE population growth in the rabits up here, they are everywhere!  I am getting pumped for season!
I would rather be a conservative nut job, than a liberal with no nuts, and no job!
