Sauk Unit Youth Elk Tips
« on: June 26, 2025, 08:17:14 AM »
My son drew the Sauk youth elk unit this year.  I am somewhat familiar with the mix of private and public land along the Skagit River, which is where I believe most of the elk in that unit reside.  Anyone hunt this area or have tips for a youth hunter.  I welcome any advice you can offer.

:yeah: Start sooner than later.  Sounds like you're on the right track as that's where they are most heavily concentrated and/or most frequently seen. Shoot me a PM when you're in the area and we.can talk more.

I agree the sooner the better, private access is key although there is some forest service land up there.

There is some public land access but gaining access to hunt private property is a huge advantage. I would get started knocking on doors ASAP. I sent you a message.

There were 2 different herds out yesterday evening in the unit along Hwy 20. Get out scouting and making landowner contacts if you haven't already.

Your top and bottom pic is of land no one will ever hunt as long as it’s owned by the current owner, which owns both properties. Was the middle pic a zoom in one?

Not saying its necessarily huntable, just that they are out and these are the typical types of locations. Also don't know if you don't ask, some are more sympathetic for youths as well.

Sorry for the upside-down and fuzzy pics, were taken while passing by. Yes a zoom in on the 2nd pic.

There were about 30-40 head out this evening in the first field.
