Electronic ear muffs
« on: June 27, 2009, 08:44:25 PM »
I was is SW a couple of days ago and still had a little birthday money left so I picked one of the cheaper pairs of electronic ear muffs. I did a lot of shooting as a kid without hearing protection so now my hearing isn't great, and I cant hear well enough when I'm wearing hearing protection to talk with folks, when I'm shooting with others I have to take off the earmuffs to hear them talk.
I got a chance to get out this morning and give them a try. I love these things. When I'm wearing them I can set the volume so I can hear as well as I could 25 years ago but the sound shuts down at a load noise like a rifle shot. I might have to try wearing these during hunting season.

Yep. Love them too.

I have had my kids wear hearing protection every time they shoot. Wish I had done the same...  These electronic ones are really cool.

Jamieb, when hunting, you may not want to wear that vairety, since most of the electronic type do not operate in stereo, rather mono, which would make finding a noise a bit hard.

I love mine too.  Won mine in the IPSC Area 1 pistol shoot about 14 years ago.  It took some getting used though, when I was getting ready to shoot a stage and I could hear other shooters talking to each other 30 feet behind me, and birds chirping in the trees!  I've used them on a stand out hunting and I could definately hear everything that I normally wouldn't.

My Radians are stereo, one mic per side...tho they are biased towards the front....moreso than YOUR ears are...so it takes some getting used to.

I wish I'd had them when i was young!
