Car Covers, good idea or paint hazard?
« on: September 24, 2025, 01:28:32 PM »
I got a couple vehicles that can’t fit in the garage (small garage, full of crap) and therefore they get covered with sap, pollen, dirt, etc.  I’m seeing mixed reviews on covers in general and rants on how they ruin paint.

Anyone have any opinions pro/com on whether or not to cover?  Which brand to use if any?

Thanks

So, actually kind of a complicated thing. I have a car cover for my camaro that is made of breathable fabric and has a soft inside liner. I use it during the spring summer months when my car is parked outside the shop and I don't want it getting dirty or bird poop etc. The ones to stay away from are the non-breathable ones as they collect condensation and will cause paint issues and rust. Also consider that if the cover moves with wind you can end up with swirls.

That's what I'm most worried about, that and water stains.  Seems like no matter how soft the liner is, any dirt or debris on the car or the cover is going to cause micro scratches.  Lots of wind here.
