Swakane Deer
« on: November 02, 2025, 05:54:43 PM »
I went for a drive this morning to checkout the lower Swakane for the late archery. Wanted to see the new burn areas. Saw one small 3point and two big 2 points. They were chasing does. Good luck late rifle Swakane hunters. Hope for more snow. Deer did look nice and healthy

We are heading over because it is a 30 year tradition but not expecting much other than to trash my tent with black soot.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Don't forget the opportunity to fill the lungs with the aftereffects of smoke.  Having been in some of the burned areas its amazing how strong that smell is even though the fire has been out for quite some time.

Spent yesterday here looking around and inspecting the fire damage. On the Rattlesnake springs side a lot of the hills are burnt on the eastern slopes from top to bottom. On the Burch side the western slopes or shady sides are burnt except for a few further back. The top of Burch is burnt pretty bad and there are Cat trails on both sides of the canyon coming off the top . The biggest problem I see is there isn't much buck brush left on the hillsides and going into winter for the deer. I will still be up there hunting the late hunt no matter the conditions.
