turkey hunting question series - question 2
« on: Yesterday at 07:32:18 AM »
So yesterday i asked question 1
when you should leave a bird and move on......great replies to follow! bottom line really is more birds are killed with patience. They know where you are, they will most of the time eventually check you out! The problem is patience. I tend to loose interest if they drift off. i will give it an hour if they do, maybe less if im not feeling it and move on... cant count the times that i walk half a mile away and the tom lights off where i was setup looking for me after. it is a game!

Question 2
Should i stay home if rain in forecast or sleep in? Rain and Barometer affects on turkeys

I have shot several Toms late morning to mid afternoon right after a rain storm.  They are out in the rain but due to a lack of light (in my opinion) they stay in the roost a little longer.

Also 5-6 years ago and 4/15 South Spokane Co had a freak snow storm that dumped 4 inches of snow.  They gobbled all morning.  Shot a Tom about 10am

I hunted that same storm.
Shot a bird that morning as well.
As far as rain goes, I hunt them when I'm over there to hunt them rain or shine. I have harvested birds in the rain but they don't seem to be as vocal.

I hunt them rain or shine since I am only over there for what I feel is a short time.  If it is raining, I am looking for open areas where they don't get water logged walking through undergrowth or brush.  It is usually spot and slip/stalk for me during rain.
