« on: February 27, 2026, 07:32:25 AM »
In addition to buying fur, I'm also buying:

Beaver tails
Skulls
castor
Frozen on carcass critters (otters/cats must be sealed)

I don't have any figures on averages, but my impression was fur sold for some of the best prices I have read about recently. I did not have much fur, but I sold 3 otter for a $75 average. One person I talked with had a lot of pretty nice beaver go for a $55 average. Couple of what I would call poor W WA cats went for I think $435. I think someone made a mistake on that one as there is no way those cats were worth that. I think we had a little more fur than two years ago. Last year was fouled up because we had to change venues at the last minute.
Pretty good sale this year to the benefit of the trappers.

Yea Bruce, those prices were artificially high!  It's all about the buyers.  If a buyer is in need and wants to make sure he goes home with fur, and can't make another sale, he'll pay a premium to make sure he gets what he needs.  Works out well for the trappers!   Hope folks don't think that other sales will be having beaver and otter or similar quality cats for the same prices we had!

I'm sure some folks who "didn't bother" with the WSTA sale are kicking themselves that they didn't put fur on the table just to see how it would do!

No, while I wasn't there last year, there only a handful of cats total, and only a couple with feet and I think I got those. A local taxidermist was also there to buy any complete hides.   Almost all fur got bought and only two small bags went to IFH.

Good to hear. I’ll let Bernie know. He’ll let the buyers know what’s coming.
Thanks, Jake

Yea I didn't see the fur that came in just to get tagged and/or was going straight to Intermountain without going on our tables.
