Rimrock Lake
« on: July 06, 2009, 02:34:29 PM »
In about 3 weeks I am going camping at Silver Beach Resort at Rimrock Lake. I have 2 small kids that are going to want to fish. I won't have a boat which from what I have read sounds like you need to fish Rimrock. Does anyone live by there that would know if Rimrock will even be a viable option for getting my kids some action or do I need to look elsewhere?
I am also bringing my flyrod. If anyone has some general ideas for places to go and do that I would appreciate that also. I am not looking for honeyholes. Just a starting point for good places to go.
Thanks in advance.

I am by no means an expert in fishing rimrock, but from everything that I have heard about fishing that area I would focus your efforts on dog and leech lakes.  Just my  :twocents:
"I think I have a fish"
"probably bottom"
"bottom doesn't head shake!"

Don't tell anyone :chuckle: :chuckle:, but there is several good spots from the bank.  Where the S.Fork of the Tieton river comes into the backside of the lake(theres a bridge)fish where the river enters the lake,(DO NOT FISH THE SOUTH FORK) you can throw a gold #2-3 blue fox spinner or a small panther martin/gold also. I used to do pretty good there when the lake is at the right level.  If the lake is low, there might be a waterfall from the river into the lake, and is still a good spot though.  You could use a slip bobber  5-7 feet and wooly bugger, or a nightcrawler/mill worms.  Also like Cackle says, there's Clear lake up the road and it has all sorts of bank access.  Spinners/Castmasters, small one's, also bobber and bait works good.
Work sucks!!!! I should be shed hunting

Heading east from Rimrock there are several little rds that cut off to the left, you want to take the 1500 rd, go down about 3/4 mile and turn east and the ponds are just down a short way. The pond was no more and a couple acres. We got limits of nice little fat rainbows using worms and power bait. This was during bow season back in 03, my memory is a little shotty on the directions but a little playing around and you could find it :chuckle:
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Leech lake for fly fishing. Evenings bring the Brookies close to the bank for flies. SNEEK in and use thew roll cast to send the fly to 10-12 feet out on the north bank, You'll LOVE it!

Thanks everyone. I feel like I have a plan now for the kids and myself. I knew I would get some good advise if I asked on here. Hopefully I will have some kind of report in 3 weeks after I have gone there.
