probably complicated trout mount idea
« on: July 13, 2009, 06:47:15 PM »
Looking for someone that's up to a challenge, that and I need some price ideas to see if it's even feasible (or something I should just screw up on my own).

By complicated, I'm guessing there arn't fiberglass forms for what I want.

if there are not fiberglass forms you can take an actual trout and make a mold of what you are looking for, what is your idea?

My idea is to get someone with more talent than me to do up something with a shape kinda like the guy in this picture
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/418G4KB15KL._SS500_.jpg
but from photos, not frozen fish sitting around.

Then I add a chunk of drift wood, and some kind of clear plastic that mimicks a ripple bout 4" dia, and toss a fly on that.

getting a fiberglass replica to be like that will be hard, it is easier to do a skin mount and make your own form to replicate what you are trying to accomplish. The ripple effect is very easy to achieve. But in doing that you will have to consider the entire base that will be needed for that fish.

I am doing some research to see if they have replicas like that available.

I have seen these people at the sportsman show several times, they do some pretty incredible work, you might contact them.

thanks for looking.

I've got a rough drawing in my head (cause I can't draw), might work, might not. But I know the one piece to the overall idea that is leaps and bounds outside my skill set would be the fish, so just seeing what options are out there.

Don't have a fish in mind yet, kinda planning this as "when i get that one awesome one" sometime this year, that fish that defines the year.

And my boat build failed, so I need to over think and fail at something else.

so here's the idea, believe I've figured out the small circle, the line and fly, and how to attach everything to the chunk of wood.

with the normal fish molds out there, could I take out small sections, heat them up and bend them about some without causing too many problems that wern't solvable with bondo or something?

(I would still need to have someone paint, I only have the abstract types as friends, and I think my skills limit out at finger paints)

No you wouldn;t be able to modify an already existing Reproduction.  Atleast not with out a LOT of work.  Best bet is to have a fish repo made from a fish your catch.

Are you lookig at doing this yourself or havinf a Taxidermist do it.  The water effects are not al that hard.  You can actually do it to make the brance under the water look wet and wrap around the drift wood.

I was thinking at minimum have someone paint the fish form.

I'd like to do the rest myself, or rather fail 3-4 times doing the rest myself (funner that way)

If you're looking for a Taxi to do it check this guy out! Dave Campbell does the best work I've seen! Though I'm not knocking Michelle or Charlie or the other taxi's on here they do really nice work but Dave does only fish. http://home.att.net/~drcgnw/home.htm
