So what's the good and bad of deer in klickitat? I'm looking at bowhunting there in September but not sure if I should travel over there if the deer are scarce and public land isn't available. I've tried sending an e-mail to fish and game to find out about herd quality, but still haven't heard back. Any input here?

I hunted it once. I saw a heard of 7 2points on some private land that was it. It is a pretty migratory deer area. No snow and no deer

I am assuming you are talking about east klick since you said mulies. It is a lot of private ground but there are some good bucks around bickelton area. I know guys who kill nice bucks, but you have to know someone. If it were me I think there are a lot better areas to look at than there.

Thanks for the info and yes it is east klickitat I'm looking at. Living outside of Washougal, that area is the nearest to me. Just wanting a little change from these blacktail. You know a little spot and stalk. What about high prairie area?

Those deer up on high prairie aren't really mule deer IMO. They may be half breed, who knows but you won't see any any deer over 20". If you want a true mule deer you have to go farther east.

Private land would be the way to go. Start checking with land owners now.
I think there's some public land...wildlife areas, but I think they are in W.klick, Greyback...
And, I think there's a little overlap with the blacktails and mulies.

I was considering up toward Goldendale, but thought I would find some public land. From the sounds of it, that might be difficult. I don't have much time to secure private land between bear hunting and scouting for elk.

There's lots of public land north and west of Goldendale, and much of the timberland that is private is open to hunting. However the majority of the roads are gated so you may have to plan on doing a lot of walking.

I think all the Boise cascade land sold to a private guy so you might want to check before you plan to hunt there.
