AHE Tag and hunter orange
«
on:
July 31, 2009, 11:03:01 AM »
I seem to remember hunter orange being required for AHE Tags, but didnt find it in this years regs. I have a tag Aug 1-7 so I dont think orange is required cause there is no general deer or elk season open??
"Anyone hunting deer or elk during any modern firearm deer or elk general
season is required to wear fluorescent hunter orange clothing. All modern
firearm permit holders must wear fluorescent hunter orange clothing. This
includes archers and muzzleloaders while hunting in units (e.g. GMUs,
Deer, Areas, Elk Areas, Wilderness Areas, etc...) which overlap modern
firearm seasons.

Is your tag valid for modern firearm? If yes, then yes - you must wear hunter orange.

Well it doesnt make any sense. Its not general modern firearm season, and its an any weapon permit. It used to indicate under the permit area, but seems to be missing now so I wonder if it changed this year or I am going a little nutty.

Bob33 is probably right but even so, I seriously doubt if there will be any game wardens checking up on an AHE permit season in August. They're probably too busy with fishermen to worry about a silly hunter orange law. Keep one of those cheap, lightweight orange vests in your pocket and put it on when you feel the need but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

There is one additional clause: "Anyone hunting in an area that is open for modern firearm deer or elk hunting must meet hunter orange requirements if they are hunting any of the following species: Bear, Bobcat, Cougar, Coyote, Deer, Elk, Fox,
Grouse, Hare, Rabbit, or Raccoon."
It seems to me that applies to anyone hunting in an area where modern firearm seasons of any sort for deer or elk are underway.
You may or may not get caught, and if caught you may or may not get cited, but I think the regulations gives the enforcement officer that option. Then you'd have to go to court and argue your case. Much easier to throw on a cheap orange vest, IMO.

Well at this point, it doesnt matter much my hunt was from Aug 1-7 and they have closed down all the area I can hunt. So unless some rain in the next 2-3 days or major drop in temps its tag soup for me.

Get it straight....There is no AHE anymore!!!! Hasn't been for 2 years now. And as a MASTER HUNTER if you get caught without the hunters orange, you risk loosing your Master Hunter certification...for what??? Because it was too much trouble to put an orange vest on???
