Here are a couple from around the property today. Nothing spectacular, just trying out the cam.

I think I will really enjoy this camera. Look forward to taking some great photos especially ones with people behind expired critters with large antlers!

Not sure about the flash after dark yet. The pictures with it zoomed in to 20x are great in fact zoomed in to 80x with the 4x digital zoom are quite good.

Here are a couple pics I took of the top of the mountain testing it out. All I did to these is resize them.

It looks like you have an infestation of critters.  Break out the Raid.  Nice pics though.

Yes lots of creepy crawlies. I found the Yellowjackets the other day while weedeating. Fortunatley they didn't get me.

I have always had a deep fascination with the small critters of the natural world. I have always enjoyed watching and looking for and at all types of insects and critters of all sorts.

Those worms for instance are natures answer for Tansey Ragwort. Those little booggers will wipe out a Tansey plant pretty quick. No need to go around and pull out the Noxious weeds with these guys around.

Just getting ready to head for Packwood and White Pass to see what kind of pic's I can rustle up. Will post some more tonight. :)

Wapitihunter,

I bought the same camera about 10 months ago, and it has been rock solid. The 20x lens is great for wildlife and the wide angle is great for landscape. I want to get a DSLR someday but this is about the next best thing! A DSLR with the same zoom capabilities would be pretty bulky and cost a lot more too. There are camera review sites that compare the clarity of the pics and the SX10 holds its own pretty good. You will have a lot of fun with this camera, but you will need a big hard drive to hold all the pics!!

I just went on Google Earth and my property is 24.4 miles from the peak of the mountain. That should help give an indication of the zoom capabilities of the camera. I don't think I was even zoomed to 20x on any of the pic's I posted. Hope that Help with your decision BEARPAW.

wapiti how are you liking that camera now.....I need to buy a camera soon....

I read some review, the guy said these cameras have more noise in the photos than the previous model, does anyone have any comments that they can post about that.

Great photos Wapiti.  Enjoy the new camera.

Bearpaw, When I was shopping for a new camera, it seems like every reviewer that said a newer model had more noise than an older model, was because of operator error.  Either they were using the wrong camera settings, or the wrong software.  I don't own this model, I am just stating a generalization based on my own research.

So far I love the camera. There are a ton of features and setting so if you are not gadget friendly you may want to look for something a little less complicated.

I did try out the flash at night and it worked great. I think it will do a great job on field photo's in low light or after dark with out needing to purchase a better flash.

Check out the Nooksack update thread. I took some landscape shots that turned out pretty good. I did not edit the pictures to give you an indication of the camera's potential. You can turn off all the sounds and there is a mute function. So if you are getting wildlife photo's it should not spook the game.

Hope that help BP. ;)

Dale, that is the same Camera I own and recommended to you. A Nikon D40 is also a good DSLR at a reasonable price. I'll agree that the little Canon is a lot lighter and more versatile than my Nikon D90.

You know if you get it we are going to need to see some pictures, especially ones with dead animals with extremely large antlers, to make sure your camera is working properly. :chuckle:

Other thoughts about the SX10 -

To keep from losing the lenscap, drill a small hole in the cap and attach a thin shoe lace by putting it through the hole and tying a knot on the other side. Then trim the lace and tie the other end to the camera strap near the camera. This has worked very well for me and makes it easy to attach or remove the cap very quickly.

The SX10 takes 4 AA batteries, which is great because I always carry extra AAs for the GPS, headlamp etc. My set of off-brand re-chargables lasts over 400 pics.

The drawback is that this adds weight, though still less than a DSLR.

There is also the Sony FZ18 or FZ28 which has similar features but uses a Lithium Ion battery. This camera is very lightweight. For those who are conscious about packing weight, you should also look at this camera.

Outstanding info Dean44. I will do that as I have already had to look for the lens cap(do you mean the sunshield?) a couple times. Thank you!

I used the shoe lace to attach the lenscap. The sunshield you should never lose because you can reverse it when not needed, and keep it on all the time. When reversed, it fits neatly and compactly over the lens without protruding.
