CVA Buckhorn 209 Magnum - Need Info
« on: August 30, 2009, 08:32:01 AM »
CVA Buckhorn 209 Magnum

The local Wallmart has this for a great price. Can anybody tell me if they come with the nipples for using the caps that are legal in WA? Is this model otherwise Washington Legal? I am very familiar with the regs, but new to muzzleloader hunting. My oldest son needs one for his first ML.

Thanks!

The CVA site does not tell a lot.

I believe the 50 cal CVA ELKHORN is the only CVA with exchangeable breech.  You can pick on up for 213.00 on-line.  I purchased one a few weeks ago and it shoots smooth.  My 54 cal hawkins is getting a rest this year

dean- I bought a staghorn cva 50 cal yrs ago at the wally world here in pt. angeles, we took the 209 out of the breech plug and put in a musket cap nipple right there off the shelf. is legal and works good, only thing I have found is it doesn't like the pellets-  pyrodex or triple 7, but the fffg triple seven powder shoots excellent out of it. I recently put a williams peep sight on, what a difference! Recently bought some harvester sabertooth belted muzzleloader bullets- 250 gr.  them with 85 gr. of triple seven makes excellent groups with mine, hope thuis helps ya, big iron.........

Thanks for the feedback. I went back to look at it and found that Wallmart gives you the legal nipple for WA when you buy the gun. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the muzzleloader by the time I had returned.

I then went over to Bobs and got the Knight Wolverine that they had on sale. It was about $30 more but looks like a nice gun. Blued barrel with a camo stock. Thanks again for answering my question.
