Here is a picture of the fellow.
I can't believe its been a year already. A year ago right now, Dad and I were parked at the Canadian customs trying to get all of the paperwork done to take our guns across. They wanted serial numbers for rifles. We COULDN"T find on on one of the guns right off. Pretty scary when you are parked at the border. We took it apart and found it under the stock. To top it all off they were strip searching a vehicle next to us piling crap everywhere. I was dreading that they would do that to us. Thank God they didn't. Not that we had anything to hide, but its not like they re-pack everything for you.

I was in a 50+ inch area. I thought I had seen three brows. I must have caught that little point or whatever. Its hard to say witht he adrenaline pumping and a big bull coming through a walll of alders too thick for man to go through. ( I know I tried.) He would swing his head throwing crap one way then the next. He looked over 50 to me anyway. Damn glad he was.

Boneaddict, thanks for those measurements of your shiras bulls, that will give me a little better ability to help my buddy judge before he shoots. Thanks for all the help you've given us.

Yep, I would hate to hang my neck on that one as well. Lots of official folks looked at it as I had to go through several border crossings and such. None of them ever questioned it. They do take their jobs and wildlife VERY seriously up there. Heck, even the locals. Its interesting driving around with that in the back of your truck up there and Northern BC. Try to pull up to a gas station. There was always a crowd. I pulled into Seattle and many didn't even notice, some that did gave me a thumbs up and many gave me the middle finger. I like their world up there.

People are always asking me about how to field judge moose. Lets go over a picture or two from some photos I have on file. I'm obviously not thinking about elk today.

This is all my opinion.....
first of all don't shoot until he stands up. Moose tend to stand, look you over before they bolt. You can shoot at that time. They are not like whitetails that just blow out of the bed. When he looks at you, you need to confirm the second brow is forked, if you care about scoring well. Other than that SHOOT. He was wonderful palms for a shiras, and lots of points. Spread is hard to tell, but with that mass and that palmation, odds are he is fairly wide.

This bull is your more typical shiras that gets busted. It would be hard to tell without him turning to look at you. Don't let that long sword point get you all excited. He lacks in amount of points, and the palms don't look real long. You need to see the spread on this one and also the brows. I wouldn't shoot if I was trohpy hunting

If this happens to you.......SHOOT!!!!!!!!!!!
Note the non-typical point coming off of this bad boy. Weak fronts but WHO CARES. I'd love to get that non typical moose on my wall. Again...just my thoughts.
