So frustrating..
« on: September 04, 2009, 09:50:28 AM »
I just cannot seem to find a decent buck!  Seen 6 does so far in Hancock/White River, hunting archery.  Doh!

Just venting...

Keep at it and good luck in finding that buck. At least you are out and trying.

Hard to get a buck if you shoot a doe :dunno:

Ya I dont shoot the does either.  I wont shoot a small buck and have only seen a handful of bucks I would pull the trigger on.  For one reason or another I didnt get the job done.

just enjoy being out there.  It's not all about the size of the antlers, or even if it has antlers.  Just have fun!

Just so you know how it goes when you see a buck. -Saw the biggest mule buck I have ever seen in the wild today. I came up on the rim of a canyon and spotted some does in the bottom on the other side. All the sudden the small group of trees next to me (about 80yds) started crashing and two bucks and four does barrelled out on the other side and down to the bottom and up and out of the canyon. They smelled me. The smaller buck was a three point with about a 16 inch spread. The big daddy was a perfect four point and was at least twice as wide as his ears. The main beam went really wide before the first fork. I also did a stalk on a little three point I spotted from the road. He was bedded down with two smaller bucks. I got up on the rocks above them and could see the body of one just below me but I couldn't see the head. ( ten feet max) I have been in this situation before and have never had a shot because when they spook, they haul arse. I was waiting for them to stand up without scaring them when all the sudden these two people were walking down the road and scared the deer. I never had a chance to even draw. One of these days it will come together.

shoot-um-dead,  what area were you in? Just general area. I have my own honey hole. I was just curious where you saw him. Lots of rumors about good horn growth on the east side.

Miles is right.  It only takes one.  I'll give you a hint.  A lot of times its when you aren't seeing very many deer, you'll get your buck. Not to mention, when the chance comes you run into issues with all those deer and their noses and eyes, so thats not necessarily a bad thing.  You just have to be patient.

I'm sure that you already know this. Mule deer are retarded! Not really but they certainly will give a person more of a chance than a whitetail. A little trick this old timer showed me has worked well for me in the past. Bring something that makes an unusual noise with you. If you jump a muley blow on said item. It's not like your going to hurt anything the deer is already spooked. I have stopped many muleys with my duck call. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it works. It might offer you that extra second that you need to make the shot.  :twocents:

Best I am going to tell is that I have a second tag for any antlerless in the Cheney unit. :chuckle:
