If you ever need it and you're not next to a computer, it's in the hunting regs.

St Helens Tree Farm is still closed to motorized vehicle entry.  :(

St. Helens tree farm won't open til rifle season and that will be weekends only.  Break out the bike.

Are you sure of that? We need it to open by October 3rd for muzzleloader season.   :bash:

Pretty sure.  They will open the gate if you get an animal down, so you can go and get it, but you will have to walk or mountain bike in.  They typically will open certain gates on weekends only during rifle season.  Mid week you will have to resort to other methods.

Well they had it open in '07 for early muzzleloader season. In fact I remember they opened the gates for the last weekend of early archery. I think we need some more rain. Don't think there's any in the forecast.  :'(

I think I'll do some scouting from the mountain bike this weekend.

I dunno why you guys want all the gates open. I would much rather have to hike/mt bike in. Less people, and less crap to bother the elk.

Just got back from 9 days in the Toutle unit.  We went 1 for 3, had a couple missed chances.  The gates are still closed.

In '07' the gates were manned by volunteers, to help access for all. There a couple gates that are open but that is only because of active logging.  If you see someone out driving around behind the gates get their license plate number and call it into Weyco. And they Weyco will take from there.  They will escort that party off the treefarm and have enforcement meet them at the gate to write that party a ticket for tresspassing.

I don't mind hiking in, but the area we wanted to hunt would be at least 10 miles. I sure don't want to pack an elk out 10 miles on my back. What makes it even worse is that they don't allow camping. So you have to walk in every morning and back out at the end of the day. Seems to me it will make the crowding worse, not better. With all the roads open people are more spread out. I'll be in there for the muzzleloader season, helping my brother fill his cow permit. I'm thinking there will be lots of hunters on the big block of state land in the north end of the Toutle unit, and then probably also within a half mile or so of all the gates. We have a cart so we don't have a problem hunting 1 1/2 to 2 miles in but even with the cart 10 miles is way too far. Does anybody know if Weyerhaeuser will open gates for retrieval of animals? I've seen it said on here in the past that if you called they would come out and open the gate so a guy could drive in and get an elk out. I think that may have been more for the Winston unit though.     :dunno:

A couple of years back I shot a cow and my dad shot a bull behind locked gates.  I called the number on the sign at the gate and the lady gave me the combo to the lock.  I basically had to give here my life story but it was worth it.  Not sure if they still do that or not.

I can't find it in the regs.  Can you point me to what page it is on?
