2009 Alaska Big Game Safaris Ram
« on: September 18, 2009, 06:55:42 AM »
I thought I would share my dall sheep hunt that I took with Todd Walton and his Alaska BGS(907 355-4271). I had an awesome time in the glacier country of the Alaskan Range. It was a 10 day backpack hunt that had three hunters in camp and all three were tagged out by day 5, me being the last to harvest. The other guide in camp was Mark Hill who is also a taxidermist in Montana (Ridgeline Taxidermy 406 859-5274). How sweet it was to have him in camp to take care of the capes.
We saw 30-35 rams on the hunt with 12-15 being legal sheep. Rams were killed on the first, third, and fifth days. I was looking for a special ram as this was my third dall sheep hunt (NWT and Yukon the others) and passed on several quality sheep before we found mine in a group of 12. There were at least 6 legal rams in the bunch but mine had the mass to go along with the "tips and flip".
Todd and Mark run a great camp and are super guys to be hunting with. Todd has this slice of heaven figured out and only takes three hunters into it a year. For the price I don't think you can find a better bargain but more importantly you will have a great time hunting with a couple of guys who care about your success. He has a 100% success rate the last 4 years and books up early so you better hurry.  I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to go sheep hunting. This is not the most fiscally demanding hunt I've been on but you still need to be in sheep shape as we had some long 10-12 mile days.
If you want some more info you can call or PM me I'd be happy to talk sheep with you.

Sorry, I forgot! 39.5x38 and bases of 13 and 3/8ths for a green score just shy of 158.
More pics to come.

Bryan,

Congrats on your awesome ram. To see that many legal rams in an open area outside of the Brook Range is truley amazing. My one and most likely only dall hunt was in 07, and all I do now is daydream about going back after the white sheep.

Nice looking sheep congrats. I took one in the Alaska Range myself but prefer the Brooks Range sheep as their coloring and uniqueness is unmatched. Keep up the good work.
