Here's 2 of my oldest Blacktails, both were in good health, both totally differnt color. This my highest scoring buck, weighed at least 3 fiddy.grin....

Here's another honker killed the first day of late buck this year in Lewis County. I don't know this gent first hand, so with all the controversy about permission to post, I'll cover his face. A buddy of mine from Morton knows this guys pard.

what about age, diet, and health?
Diet can be a factor in hemoglobin production, also you'll see more Canadian deer and high country deer in colder climates with darker horns (on averages, with exceptions). Colder climates cause in increase in hemoglobin production. Health and age I'm not sure about, but it would stand to reason an unhealthy buck might have trouble producing as much hemoglobin as a healthy buck.
