rimrock elk
« on: September 29, 2009, 12:39:23 PM »
Heading out to do some more scouting and was curious if anyone had some more information on places to start.  New to eastside elk hunting and was lucky enough to draw a branched tag.  Any help anyone has would be appreciated.  Not looking for anyones honey hole. Just a point in the right direction since I am not afraid to put in miles. thanks.

Wouldn't one have to kill a bull in order to classify something as a honey hole?  :chuckle:

Don't worry I don't have any honey holes either. Just some good areas to see animals.

Louie Gap, Short and dirty, blue slide, and Pinegrass as a last resort. That unit is too thick for my liking :twocents:.

I like the east side of that unit the best ;). Pinegrass gets really thick up on the flat part. Like 20 yards is as far as you can see... And then the wilderness is insanely thick also, unless you get up above the timber line. But I don't know if too many elk hangout up there... My guess is no?

So you don't like going where the elk are???  The thick stuff is where the elk are.  Theyr'e not gonna hang out in the wide open.  THe thick stuff is where it's at.  You can call them in way closer.
